The wedding was on saturday, at 3:00, but we went the day before to help set up. We had fun, the two families bonded over decorations, and then we went outside to meet up with one of my sisters.
it was then that I heard we were getting a visitor from California. ::blink:: ok, so I was willfully stupid, and pretended that my brother Chris (whom I was rather fond of) was the one she ment. I was forcibly disillusioned when I heard her ask someone if they could loan her their cell phone; she needed to call her dad and see how long it would be until they (he *and* Chris) got there.
I can honestly tell you this; I am fickle.
why do I say that? because while I wrote the man a letter, claiming that he was my father, and if he ever wanted to have any sort of relationship with me, he had to make the first move. However; I didn't really want him in the same state as me. Hearing that we were probably going to be in the same bunkhouse... had me alarmed.
Thankfully, He had the tact to stay in another cabin. I think having both my step-dad and (as one of my kids says, with a mile thick accent) "bloood-daddy" sleep in the same room would have been too weird for both my Mother and myself. In order to keep the peace, this was Steve's day so my issues could wait, I simply avoided Him as much as possible, and ignored him when I couldn't.
Steve and Jody's wedding was beautiful. the cerimony was outside, in an ampatheater, and though it was chilly, the weather had decided to be nice. It was strongly influanced by native american traditions, which was kind of cool. the party afterwards, for anyone who wanted to stay, was a hayride, dinner, and fairly quiet bonfire. the only one got embarassingly drunk was Chris; who started drinking at noon, was rather 'soused' by 3, and passed out on the wood pile by fire at 10, after having been compleatly smashed for most of the evening.
I got onto the fairly neutral topic of anime with Tim, and was able to have a civil (if short) converstation with Him. I never did manage to be able to look Him in the eye.

Put me into the same room with him and one us will not come out alive. ::growls::
But you managed civil conversation. Kudos to you for your bravery (and restraint)! ::hug, glomp, tackle, chu!::
Chris... Chris... is that the one who pounds his head on the concrete and wants to file his teeth into fangs? Isn't he awfully young? Or is that Joey? Didn't Chris get stabbed once upon a time? O.o;

Date: 2004-10-18 09:25 am (UTC)Chris is the oldest brother. he's 30. (he's the one that fell of the bridge, got stabbed, robbed the liquor store, ext) There is no Joey, you're thinking of Josh.
::eyes own comment:: My family is so special....and not really in a good way often.

I've, personally, always been fond of the saying that "friends are the family you can choose." ::roots through the Link, finds a heartstring and gives it a tug:: <3
