Rantings on Religion and Homophobes.
Apr. 26th, 2007 01:20 amor "Why Jenn(y) just emailed the American Family Association."
So I took a poll the other day, and told the AFA that I really didn't care about the sexual orientations of business owners. The fact that I took the bloody poll seems to have just convinced them that I was one of them, and so they have been emailing me petitions.
I got one today that wanted me to join the fight banning a bill on hate crimes. Why? Because they are afraid that a hatecrime law will impinge on the freedom of speech in churches.
...Allow me a moment to scream in utter frustraition. *THIS* is why I am not proud of my religion. If you are preaching against gay/transgender/whatever enough that it counts as a hate crime...there's a problem. You see, where I come from, the bible says that we are supposed to *LOVE* our neighbors. There's also the line about not casting the first stone, I like that one too. What is it about loving people, and not judging that is so hard? why can people never manage to do it? Why can't I follow my God, *and* be liberal? (Granted, I do have my conservative moments. Abortion is a touchy issue with me: I'm in the business of caring for children and have taken 8 credit hours of child development classes. Don't tell me what is and isn't a baby.)
So I emailed the AFA, and basicly told them that I was ashamed of getting that email, and that I was a good christian: meaning I love both liberals and homophobes alike. I kept it very pleasant, and told them that I would be praying for them. sadly, I don't think it will do anything, but it needed said.
